Junior State Of America

The Junior State of America (JSA) is a nonpartisan nonprofit student-run organization started in 1934. It allows high school students from all across America to participate in a mock political system. Students can take part in an array of debates, as well as Model United Nations and Mock Trials. Students gather at different overnight conferences across the country three times a year: Fall State, Winter Congress, and Spring State. At the more decentralized Fall State and Spring State, students go to different debates and activities of their choosing. Winter Congress is structured more like an actual Congress: students are divided into Senates and the Houses of Representatives. Each student then goes to their assigned house and passes or vetos bills, depending on how well the debators do and what the students feel should happen. There also Junior State clubs at high schools across America, which engage in politics at the grass roots level and encourage political awareness on their campuses.
