Juho Niukkanen

A Finnish politician prior to and during Winter War. Born 27th July 1888 in Kirvu, died 17th May 1954 in Helsinki. A member of parliament 1917-1932 and 1936-1954, Agrarian party (Maalaisliitto, see Centre_Party_%28Finland%29). Held a minister position in many cabinets, most notably as the Minister of Defense in 1937-1940. Juho Niukkanen was favourite subject of many puns and jokes, because his name is derived from the adjective "niukka" (bare, meagre, economical).
