Josie and the Pussycats is a comedy movie released in 2001. It was directed by Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan, and stared Rachael Leigh Cook, Tara Reid, Rosario Dawson, Parker Posey, and Alan Cumming. It is based upon the Archie comic of the same name, which had been adapted into a Saturday morning cartoon by Hanna-Barbera in 1970.

Plot

Wyatt Frame (Cumming) is a record excutive, working for record label MegaRecords. The label pumps out pop bands, and gets people to buy their records by putting subliminal messages under the music. When his old band, Du Jour, gets suspicious he is forced to kill them off and find new talent. He comes to the small town of Riverdale, in which he meets Josie (Leigh Cook), Melody (Reid), and Valerie (Dawson), members of the band 'The Pussycats'. He offers them a record deal, and they are flown off to Hollywood. All is going well, until Melody and Valerie get angry that the focus of the band is not on them as a whole, but only Josie. After numerous attempts to kill off Valerie and Melody, and to brainwash Josie, the head of MegaRecords, Fiona (Posey) intervenes. In the end, MegaRecords is exposed for what it really is and is closed down.
