Josh Beckett

Joshua Patrick Beckett (born May 15, 1980) is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Florida Marlins baseball team.

Biography

The right-hander from Spring, Texas has grown to become one of the premier young pitchers in the National League. His career thus far has been impressive, but recurring blister problems on his pitching hand have limited his availability in the regular season. However, he achieved notoriety in the 2003 postseason, with two great performances (three days apart) in the 2003 World Series. He is a power pitcher, wielding a 97 mph fastball and a consistently 90 mph changeup and curveball. Teamed up with Ivan Rodriguez, the star catcher, he helped the Marlins win the 2003 World Series, 4 games to 2. He is generally a power pitcher who sometimes has problems with his control. His fielding skills are rather good, although he is not as good a fielder as some other pitchers (such as Mike Mussina or Greg Maddux).
