Josephine is a city located in Collin County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 594.

Geography

Josephine is located at 33°3'40" North, 96°18'48" West (33.061018, -96.313227). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.2 km² (1.6 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 594 people, 205 households, and 166 families residing in the city. The population density is 140.7/km² (364.5/mi²). There are 220 housing units at an average density of 52.1/km² (135.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 92.93% White, 1.18% African American, 0.51% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.51% Pacific Islander, 4.21% from other races, and 0.51% from two or more races. 10.61% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 205 households out of which 45.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.3% are married couples living together, 9.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.0% are non-families. 15.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.90 and the average family size is 3.22. In the city the population is spread out with 29.1% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 29.3% from 25 to 44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 7.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 111.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 106.4 males. The median income for a household in the city is $34,750, and the median income for a family is $41,250. Males have a median income of $30,625 versus $23,333 for females. The per capita income for the city is $15,879. 12.2% of the population and 11.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 16.6% of those under the age of 18 and 4.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
