Jorge Arantes

Jorge Arantes was the first husband of Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. They were wed on October 16, 1992. At the time of their wedding, Jorge was in the army (he later became an obscure TV journalist), while she was teacher of English as a foreign language in Oporto, Portugal. They had one child, a daughter named Jessica (born July 27, 1993), before their divorce in 1995. Arantes has become highly unpopular with Harry Potter readers after revealing that he had hit Rowling after they fought. After a miscarriage, a year of marriage, and giving birth to their daughter Jessica, Rowling left Arantes and Oporto, choosing Edinburgh, Scotland where she could be near her younger sister.
