. Dolliver was initially appointed to the Senate to fill the unfinished term of
John H. Gear
, who died while in office. Senator Dolliver was later elected to the Senate, where he served until his own death. From

United States House of Representatives
. He was a member of the
Republican
party. The small town of
Dolliver, Iowa
established on a new railroad line in
1900
, was named in honor of the Senator.
