John W. Garrett

John Work Garrett (July 31 1820September 26 1884) was an American banker, philanthropist and president of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O). In 1858 he became president of the B&O. Under his presidency, the railroad built tracks to western Maryland where they built several resort hotels to generate ridership on the railroad.
