John RoselliA Mafia boss, who helped to run Hollywood and Las Vegas for the Chicago mob. Close friend of producer Bryan Foy, who brought him into the movie business as a producer, where he soon married actress June Lang. In later years was rumored to have been involved in CIA attempts to kill Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. Retired from organized crime to Miami, but in 1976 his body was was found stuffed into a 50-gallon drum floating in the ocean. His killers were never found. Born in 1905, Filippo Sacco AKA Phillipo Socko was best known as Johnny Roselli. In 1921 he relocated to Los Angeles after jumping bail on a federal narcotics arrest and starts working for mobster Jack Dragna, where he handles affairs for Chicagos Cosa Nostra family in California and Las Vegas. By the 1930s he starts to extort the film industry. In 1939, Roselli married the actress June Lang, the ex-wife of agent Victor Orsatti, in Yuma, Arizona, The couple plan a trip to Boulder Dam before returning to their home in Hollywood. June fell hard and didn't know what he was at the time. He had passed himself off as an aspiring movie producer. Her studio eventually tore up her contract when the scandal arose and June's career crumbled under the pressure. Although, June divorced Johnny when her pleas for him to go legit went in vain, her career never recovered. It is not long before he divorces Lang. Roselli is one of the defendants in the 1941 labor extortion trial in which George Brown, former president of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employes, and Willie Bioff, labor racketeer, are convicted and imprisoned. In 1942 he is also sentenced to ten years in prison, but serves only three. Tony Accardo, boss of the Chicago mob, which owns Marilyn Monroe's career, tells Roselli to force Harry Cohn into signing her with his Columbia Pictures in 1948. Cohn obtained control of Columbia through mob money provided by Roselli. The 1950s sees Roselli picks up 20-year-old showgirl and trick-shot golfer Jeanne Carmen during an argument with her ex-lover by giving her a ride to Las Vegas. In Vegas, he and Jeanne do scams on unknowing golfers, talking them into betting about her golfing skills. After a few months, Roselli throws a customer, who is unwilling to pay, from a roof. Johnny did go legit for a time when he was promoted to associate producer by producer Brian Foy for Eagle-Lion Studios. Later, he dates actress Marilyn Monroe. In 1957, Johnny becomes West Coast boss after Dragnas death. He involves himself in plots against Cuban leader Fidel Castro in the 1960s, and becomes Sam Giancanas representative in Las Vegas. Frank Sinatra sponsors Johnny for membership in the Friars Club, where he soon starts to run a gambling operation in 1963. He moves to Miami after Giancanas removal from Chicago. In 1968, Roselli is convicted for entering the United States illegally and is ordered deported by the Immigration and Naturalization Service. No country wants him. In June 1975, Roselli appears before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence to testify about his connection with the CIA and an alleged 1961 plot to assassinate Cuban Premier Fidel Castro. Fourteen months later, his decomposed body is found in a 55-gallon steel drum floating in Dumfounding Bay, Florida on August 9 1976 . He has been strangled and stabbed; his legs have been sawed off and stuffed into an empty oil drum along with the rest of his body. It is believed that Roselli was killed by someone working for Santo Trafficante because he was talking too much about the Kennedy assassination. 1990 - There are persistent rumors that Roselli and fellow Giancana trustee Charles Nicoletti, with the help of Jack Ruby, were part of a hit team that assassinated President John F.
