John Moores (Merchant)

Sir John Moores (1896-1993) was a British merchant. Originally in the mail-order business, in 1937 he opened the first store in the Littlewoods shop. He also established Littlewoods football pools. He was also a philanthropist and in 1992, Liverpool Polytechnic was renamed Liverpool John Moores University in his honour.
