John Higgins (born May 18, 1975) is a Scottish professional snooker player. Higgins turned professional in 1992. He won three ranking tournaments in the 1994/95 season. He won the World Championship in 1998, and reached the number one spot in the rankings the following season. For a while, it seemed that Higgins would dominate snooker for several years, as Stephen Hendry had done throughout the 1990s, but fierce competition from other newcomers, notably Mark Williams, Ronnie O'Sullivan and Matthew Stevens, saw him knocked off the top spot after only two seasons.
