John Gottfried

John Charles Gottfried (born October 13, 1917 in Welland, Ontario, died July 28, 1980) was a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He was a New Democratic member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1969 to 1977. Gottfried was educated at the University of Manitoba, and worked as a teacher. From 1946 to 1955, he served as President of the Manitoba Teachers' Society in Gimli. He was elected to the Manitoba legislature in the 1969 provincial election, defeating Progressive Conservative candidate Eric Stefanson Sr. by 223 votes. In the 1973 election, he was returned over PC candidate Ted Revel by 56 votes. During his time in parliament, he was a backbench supporter of Edward Schreyer's government.
