John E. Sweeney

John E. Sweeney (b. August 9, 1955) is a politician from the state of New York, currently representing the state's 20th Congressional district (map) in the U.S. House. Sweeney was born in Troy, New York and he graduated from Russell Sage College in 1981 with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and Criminal Justice. Sweeney was the New York state commissioner of labor under Governor George Pataki, and served as Executive Director of the New York Republican Party from 1992 to 1995. He was elected to the House of Representatives as a Republican in 1998 in Saratoga County. Since his election, he has been referred to as the most effective congressman in New York, due to his ties to Governor Pataki and President Bush. During the 2000 election, Sweeney helped to spearhead the GOP legal efforts in Florida, probably leading to his nickname from President Bush, "Congressman Kickass." Sweeney is divorced, with three children. He lives in Clifton Park, New York. Sweeney, John E.
