John Cawte Beaglehole

John Cawte Beaglehole OM CMG (June 13, 1901October 10, 1971) was born in Wellington, New Zealand. He was educated at Wellington College, Victoria University College New Zealand, and gained a PhD at the London School of Economics, where he was a student of Harold Laski. After his doctoral studies he was a historian based mainly at Victoria. He wrote the definitive biography of James Cook, the 18th century English explorer-seaman, and edited his Journals. Works
