John Cardinal Farley

John Murphy Farley, later John Cardinal Farley, (April 20, 1842 - September 17, 1918) was the seventh bishop (fourth archbishop) of the Roman Catholic diocese of New York. He was born in Newtown Hamilton, Ireland, and was ordained priest on June 11, 1870. He was appointed an Auxiliary Bishop of New York in November, 1895 and ordained December 21, 1895 with the titular see of Zeugma. He was Appointed Archbisoph of New York on September 15, 1902 and elevated to Cardinal on November 27, 1911, serving as archbishop until his death. He is interred in the crypt under the altar of St. Patrick's Cathedral.
