John Bean

John Bean is a veteran of the far right scene in Britain. Bean began his career in the League of Empire Loyalists but left them because of their ties to the Conservative Party to form his own National Labour Party. Bean's NLP merged in 1960 with the White Defence League to form the British National Party, which initially gained some support in London. The party suffered a series of setbacks at the 1966 general election and saw their support fall dramatically. The loss of Colin Jordan to the British National Socialist Movement (following a dispute over Jordan's open nazism), which later re-emerged as the British Movement also helped to convince Bean to take his party into the National Front on its foundation in 1967. Bean became something of a peripheral figure in the NF. His powerbase in the BNP did not hold and he was forced to give way to such newer figures as John Tyndall. Bean remains fairly active on the Brtish right and was a candidate for the BNP's third incarnation in the 2004 European elections, where he was seventh on a list of seven candidates for the Scotland constituency. He also runs his own website, which functions as an extreme right news page, and has served as editor of BNP magazine "Identity." He is perhaps best known for describing himself as "the British Joseph Goebbels" in 1962.
