War of 1812

Virginia
, he came to
Kentucky
in
1779
. He practiced law in
Shelby County, Kentucky
from
1801
to
1807
. That year he went to the state Senate, serving until his death. In the War of 1812, he was commissioned a colonel and died at the Battle of
River Raisin
. He is the namesake of counties in
Kentucky
,
Ohio
, and
Indiana
.
