Joe HigashiJoe Higashi is the supporting character of SNK Playmore's Fatal Fury series and a master of old-fashioned Muay Thai. He was born in Japan on 1972 but spent the majority of his time at Thailand, where he can be as strong as his father by just simple mastery of Muay Thai alone. He has long been the sidekick of the Bogard boys (Terry and Andy) but the story only started when Andy first met Joe Higashi on his way back to Southtown on the first King of Fighters Tourney in the early 1990s. Joe Higashi was voiced by Katsuhisa Namase on Fatal Fury 2, Fatal Fury Special, and the King of Fighters 94, but from Fatal Fury 3 and onward, has been voiced by the famous seiyuu Nobuyuki Hiyama. Joe earned his title as the champion of Muay Thai by besting Hwa Jai in a Muay-Thai-only tourney. Hwa Jai later joined the King of Fighters Tourney in order to exact revenge against Joe but failed. Ever since then, Joe has been defending his title against lesser opponents. Joe then met Andy Bogard and assumed that he is superior to Andy in an exhibition match. Joe was wrong as he was defeated by Andy. Realizing that he's much slower than Andy, Joe congradulated Andy for his tenacity. Andy then offered Joe to join him to go to Southtown to help Andy and Terry to exact revenge against Geese Howard, the man responsible for the death of Jeff Bogard. Although Joe understands that he risks expulsion from the Muay Thai Federation for this, Joe accepted Andy's offer and then went to the King of Fighters Tourney to support the Bogards unconditionally. While both Andy and Joe were not able to fight Geese Howard, Joe did his job in helping the Bogards out--Terry managed to defeat Billy Kane and later on bested Geese Howard on top of the Geese Building. Joe then returned to Thailand to defend his title. However, his recess turned out to be short-lived when a German Brute with the name of Wolfgang Krauser attacked his archrival Hwa Jai without warning, and Joe Higashi is forced to enter the King of Fighters Tournament to investigate the truth behind Hwa Jai's beating. While Joe tried to prove that he is much stronger than the Bogards, he could not do so as all he can do is provide unconditional support to the Bogards again--Joe then helped Terry and Andy defeat Billy Kane, Axel Hawk, and even Laurence Blood. Terry provided the final wallop, prompting Wolfgang Krauser to fight Terry. Terry wasted Krauser with a Power Geyser, and Krauser lost. Krauser tells Terry to leave at once and Krauser has to live forever with his pride destroyed by an upstart. With Krauser finally losing to Terry Bogard, Hwa Jai and Joe Higashi ended their rivalry and became friends ever since. Soon Joe Higashi would be a mainstay to Terry's team throughout a lot of King of Fighters tournaments. During the 94 tournament, Andy rather include Joe Higashi as a team member instead of Mai Shiranui, thus Shiranui felt left out. While Joe Higashi never played much of a major role since the defeat of Geese Howard, Joe Higashi proved to be a loyal sidekick for the Bogards, teaming with the Bogards by all means necessary. Although Joe Higashi enjoys dating Lilly Kane, he has to be concerned because Billy Kane does not like the idea of Joe Higashi dating her. He really does not like dressing formally either.
