Joe FaganJoe Fagan was an English football manager, whose sole managerial job was to take charge of Liverpool from 1983 to 1985. He died at the age of 80 in July 2001 after a long illness. When Bill Shankly retired as Liverpool manager in 1974, his assistant and then successor Bob Paisley appointed Fagan his assistant in turn. Following Paisley's retirement in 1983, Fagan finally took over. Fagan was particularly notable for buying Jan Molby, a Danish midfielder who became the first foreign player to play in English football for ten years, and for winning three competitions in his first season as manager (he was the first manager to do this with a British side, and only Alex Ferguson and Gerard Houllier have also managed this feat). Following the Heysel disaster at the 1985 European Cup Final, Fagan opted to retire, and was succeeded by leading Scottish and Liverpool forward Kenny Dalglish. Honours Runner-up Fagan, JoeFagan, Joe
