Jim Shapiroright Jim "The Hammer" Shapiro is a personal injury lawyer in Rochester, New York that is infamous for commercials soliciting his services. These commercials are typically on late night television and feature imagery such as fires surrounding the screen, explosions and computer animations of crashes. He also makes prominent claims about "cutting the hearts out" and "handing you their severed heads." In June of 2002, the New York state supreme court punished Shapiro with a $1.9 million dollar malpractice case. Jurors found that in the case of Christopher Wagner, Shapiro opted for a quick settlement with a minimum of effort rather than fully pursue the case. Wagner never met with a true lawyer until he agreed to a $65,000 settlement which did not fully cover his injury in a two car crash. He also has a reputation of an ambulance chaser; in one incident, he solicited services to a hospital patient in a coma.
