Jim Ross Lightfoot

James Ross Lightfoot (1938-) is a Republican politician and former Representative from Iowa. Lightfoot was born in Sioux City, Iowa, in 1938. He was raised on a farm near Farragut, where he graduated from high school in 1956. After serving eight years in the United States Army and Army Reserve, he worked as a radio broadcaster and farm equipment plant manager among other professions in Texas and Iowa. He was elected to the U.S. House in 1984 and served there for six terms. In 1996 he left his seat to run for the Senate against incumbent Tom Harkin, but was unsuccessful.
