Jhai Foundation

The Jhai Foundation is a non-profit organisation working mainly in Laos. One of the projects is bringing internet to rural villages. To achieve this goal they have developed the Jhai PC and Communication System. It's a solid-state, low energy consuming computer can be powered by a foot-crank together with a wireless network. The computer is running GNU/Linux with a localised KDE. Small businesses, such as farmers in Ban Phon Kam, are able to get better prices for their products. Jhai also introduced organic farming techniques to these farmers.
