Jerome Horowitz

Jerome Horowitz, in 1964, first synthesized the compound that would later become known as zidovudine, an antiviral drug used to treat HIV. At the time of the synthesis, he was working for the Michigan Cancer Foundation under a US National Institutes of Health grant.
