Jericho (Comics)Jericho (Joseph Slade) is a superhero who was a member of the Teen Titans in the acclaimed 1980s period of New Teen Titans by Marv Wolfman and George Perez, published by DC Comics. He was the son of Slade Wilson, a.k.a. Deathstroke the Terminator. When he was a child, he was held hostage by criminals and his vocal cords were cut by the criminals during his father's attempt to rescue him. As a result, he was rendered mute. By the time Joseph reached his late teens, his mutant powers borne out of his father's enhancements came to fore. Namely, he gained the power to transform into an energy being that enters into any humanoid being he can make eye contact with. Once inside, Jericho takes possession of his target's voluntary motor functions for his own use. In addition, if the host is unconscious while Jericho is in control, he can speak through the host's body, but only with that person's accent and vocabulary. The character was introduced in the acclaimed story continuity called The Judas Contract where he joined the team to stop his father. Much later, the character was killed off by his own father when he was possessed by a malevolent spirit. Wolfman and Perez originally intended the character to be gay. However, they later felt that the character would be very stereotypically gay, in that he has already been established as being very sensitive, musically talented, and a flamboyant dresser. They therefore chose to make him straight, and introduced a short-lived romantic interest for him.
