Jens WeiflogJens Weiflog (born July 21, 1964, Erlabrunn, Erzgebirge, Germany) is the most successful German ski jumper of all time. Only the Finn Matti Nyknen has won more World Cup victories. Already as a 19 year old he won the Four Hills Tournament for the DDR in 1983/84. Weiflog was known as Flohe due to his slight stature and his light body. That same winter he won the Combined World Cup and later the Normal Hill Competition at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo. The following winter was dominated by Weiflog and the outstanding Finn Matti Nyknen. The outstanding thing of his success however is the fact that he competed at the top level for twelve years. Neither the regime change from DDR to the united Germany in 1989/1990, or the change in ski jump technique from the parallel to the v-style around 1993 stopped his success. In 1994 he won two gold medals on the Super Hill and in the team competition at the Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, ten years after his first Olympic victory. His career was completed in 1996 when Weiflog became the first and only ski jumper to win the combined Fou Hills Tournament. He had also won 5 second places finishes in the competition over the course of his career. After this achievement he retired from professional sport. Today Jens Weiflog is a hotelier in his home town of Oberwiesenthal and is a co-commentator on Germany's ZDF TV station. External links - http://www.svz.de/sport/wiedererkannt/weissflog.html
