Jenova

Jenova is a fictional character, one of the villains in the PlayStation and PC video game, Final Fantasy VII. In the game, many of the main characters, including Sephiroth and Cloud Strife, have been injected with Jenova cells at some point in their lives, this strange experiment makes them far stronger and more resilient to physical attacks, but an unfortunate side-effect seems be that these characters become mentally unstable.

The Origins of Jenova

Jenova, according to the Jenova Project reports found in the basement of the Shinr-Ra mansion in Nibelheim, crash-landed on the Planet during the time of the Ancients. Jenova first appeared to the Ancients as a peaceful friend, and learned of all their magics, including Holy and Meteor, but the Ancients were unaware of the very deadly and very contagious disease that Jenova had infected them with. The disease spread rapidly, utterly destroying many of the Ancients and their culture. The crater left by Jenova's landing never fully healed, and is healing with the planet's Lifestream to this day. Jenova was later found by Professer Gast of Shin-Ra. At first, Gast believes that Jenova is actually a Cetra, an assumption that couldn't be further from the truth. Taking the frozen body, he (for some, as yet, unknown reason) takes her body to the Shin-Ra mako reactor in Nibelheim, realizing that her cells, when injected into human hosts, produced increased physical prowess and other such abilities. As Shin-Ra was currently at war with Wutai, Dr. Hojo saw Jenova as the perfect opportunity to create super-soldiers. Believing the procedure is too risky to attempt on a full grown human, he instead injects the cells into his unborn son. This child grows up to become Sephiroth, the ultimate SOLDIER. Sephiroth is never told of his true origins (mother=Lucrecia; father=Hojo), and is instead told that his mother was a woman named "Jenova." After discovering the truth (or what he thinks is the truth), Sephiroth embarks on a campaign to finish the work of his "mother," by destroying all life on the planet.
