Jay NunleyJay Nunley-(b. January 31, 1936), is a singer/songwriter based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Since 1980, Nunley and his wife, Terry, have owned and operated Jay's Place, a nightclub in East Tulsa. His unique blend of traditional country, western swing, and harmony-driven rock has attracted a loyal cult following. Early years John Delbert (Jay) Nunley was born in Gore, Oklahoma to Alison and Vera Nunley. The third of four children and the son of a Pentecostal preacher, Nunley's early years were spent moving from town to town. When Jay was twelve, the Nunleys relocated to Fort Smith, Arkansas. There, he taught himself to play guitar and was featured in a family gospel trio on the radio. By the age of twenty, Nunley had made his way to Tulsa, Oklahoma. There, he fell in love with the emerging genre of Rock and Roll. It was in Tulsa where he began to play publicly, blending the hard-edged rock and roll of Elvis Prestley and Chuck Berry with his traditional country heroes; Hank Williams, Bob Wills, and Red Foley.
