Japanese Industrial Standard

right Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) specifies the standards used for industrial activities in Japan. The standardization process is coordinated by Japanese Industrial Standards Committee and published through Japanese Standards Association. Standards are named like "JIS X 0208:1997", where X denotes area division, followed by four digits (or five digits for some of the standards corresponding ISO standards), and the revision release year. Divisions of JIS and significant standards are:

    • JIS X 0201:1997 : Japanese national variant of ISO 646
    • JIS X 0202:1998 : Japanese national standard which corresponds to ISO 2022
    • JIS X 0208:1997 : 7-bit and 8-bit double byte coded KANJI sets for information interchange
    • JIS X 0212:1990 : Code of the supplementary Japanese graphic character set for information interchange
    • JIS X 0213:2000 : 7-bit and 8-bit double byte coded extended Kanji sets for information interchange
    • JIS X 0221-1:2001 : Japanese national standard which corresponds to ISO 10646
    • JIS X 0401:1973 : To-do-fu-ken (prefecture) identification code
    • JIS X 0402:2003 : Identification code for cities, towns and villages
