Jane MitakidesLouella Jane Mitakides of Dayton, Ohio, is an American politician of the Democratic party who is the 2004 Democratic nominee to contest the United States House of Representatives seat held by Republican Michael R. Turner. Mitakides, a graduate of Centerville High School, Centerville, Ohio, in the Dayton suburbs, works in the advertising industry with the Calderhead-Jackson Advertising firm. She was the founder of the Helsley Advertising firm. Mitakides has worked on several Democratic campaigns, including Ann Richards's effort in 1994 for a second term as Texas governor, Bill Clinton's presidential campaigns in 1992 and 1996, and Al Gore's presidential campaign in 2000. She has also worked for the Twenty-First Century Democrats and Vote Texas 2002. She has served in numerous public capacities, including as a member of the Development Board of the St. Elizabeth Hospital (Dayton, Ohio), the board of Women in Leadership, and the board of Women in Communications. She was a founding member of the Women's Council of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the Small Business Council of the Democratic National Committee. She has also served on the boards of the Friends of the Dayton Ballet. Mitakides's husband, John, is a dentist in the Dayton area. They have a daughter, Katie, and a son, Andrew. Katie Mitakides, a graduate of Hollins University, is studying for a master's degree in international relations. Andrew Mitakides is a student at Hampden-Sydney College.
