James Langevin

   
James R. "Jim" Langevin (born April 22 1964) in Providence, Rhode Island is a politician from Rhode Island. He is a member of the United States Democratic Party. He was a member of the Rhode Island state assembly from 1988 until 1994, secretary of state of Rhode Island from 1995 until 2001, and has been a member of the United States House of Representatives since 2001, representing the state's 2nd Congressional district. (map) Langevin has been unable to walk since 1980, when, at the age of 16, he was seriously injured in an accidental shooting. He uses a wheelchair, and is known as an advocate for people with disabilities. On July 27, 2004, he spoke to the Democratic National Convention, largely on the subject of disabilities.
