James Joyner

James Joyner is Managing Editor of Strategic Insights, a monthly electronic journal of U.S. and international security issues. He is a management analyst at International Development Resources, Inc., a Washington, D.C.-area defense contractor. Previously, he was acquisitions editor for international affairs at Brassey's, Inc., a Dulles, Virginia book publisher and a political science professor at Troy State University, Bainbridge College, and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He has published a co-authored article in International Studies Quarterly, four book reviews, fourteen encyclopedia articles, and over two dozen conference papers. Joyner served in the U.S. Army from 1988-1992 and is a combat veteran of Operation Desert Storm. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and numerous service medals and ribbons. He is a graduate of the Airborne and Air Assault schools. He has held TS/SCI security clearance. Joyner received a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Alabama and B.A. and M.A. degrees in Political Science from Jacksonville State University. His weblog, Outside The Beltway is read by over a million people every month. He is also a writer for Tech Central Station.
