Ivan Moody

Ivan Moody, British composer, was born in London in 1964, and studied composition with Brian Dennis at London University and privately with John Tavener. He later studied Orthodox theology at the University of Joensuu, Finland. Moody is also active as a conductor, directing ensembles like Voces Angelicae, the Kastalsky Chamber Choir (Britain), Capilla Pea Florida (Spain) and Ensemble Alpha (Portugal). Eastern liturgical chant has had a profound influence on his music, as has the spirituality of the Orthodox Church, to which he belongs. He now lives in Lisbon, Portugal, where he was until 1998 Professor of Composition at the Academia de Artes e Tecnologias, Lisbon. Currently he is collaborating on the construction of a database for the future Portuguese Contemporary Music Centre, and is a member of the CESEM research unit at the Universidade Nova in Lisbon.
