Rugby league
team representing
Ireland
. On some occasions, the team is dominated by second-generation
professional
players, born and bred in
England
, while on others
amateur
home players from the
Rugby League Ireland
competition compete as the
national
team. Ireland is represented at rugby league in the
European Nations Cup
; since
2000
they have also competed in the
World Cup
, having previously played in the
Emerging Nations Tournament
. Irish players have also been selected to play for the
Great Britain side
, one recent example being
Cork
-born Brian Carney.
