Iraqi Islamic Party

Iraqi Islamic Party (Hizb al-Islami al-Airaqi), a political party in Iraq. The party was founded in 1960. It evolved out of the Muslim Brotherhood movement. It was clandestine during the Saddam Hussein years. The party general secretary is Dr. Mohsin Abd al-Hamid. After the invasion of Iraq, IIP joined the U.S.-appointed government. On November 9th 2004, during the attack of U.S.-led forces on Falluja, IIP withdrew its support to the government. The sole minister of the party, Hajim Hassani, chose to stay in the government and quit the party.
