Intrepid Sea-air-space Museum

The Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum is a museum in New York City consisting of the World War II aircraft carrier USS Intrepid, the submarine USS Growler, Pier 86 on the West Side of Manhattan, the destroyer USS Edson, and a barge containing a Concorde airliner. It is near a terminal for cruise ships and ocean liners as well as a diplomatic consulate of the People's Republic of China. The museum opened in 1982 after Zachary Fisher succeeded in saving the Intrepid from being broken up, and after Fisher docked the ship at Pier 86. The Intrepid became a historic landmark in 1986, and the museum has since accumulated a McDonald's, a ticket center, the destroyer, the submarine, several fighter aircraft, and the Concorde. The museum also serves as a host for annual Fleet Week events.
