Interstate 97Interstate 97 is an intrastate Interstate highway located entirely within Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. It runs from Annapolis, Maryland at the U.S. 50/U.S. 301/secret I-595 multplex to Baltimore, Maryland at I-695. Some have suggested it be combined with Interstate 70 (as part of an extension to Dover, Delaware, as that state capital does not have an interstate highway near it) or Interstate 83 -- or could even be designated I-995, since it is shorter than the average three-digit Interstate route. - Two spur routes of I-97 were planned but never built. I-197 would have been 1 mile (1.6 km) long and I-297 would have been 2 miles (3.2 km) long.
- Originally proposed I-97 route included section of US 50/Secret I-595 between Interstate 95 and the current I-97 designation.
- Originally proposed north-south route was to follow current Maryland Route 10 corridor.
- Section from exit 7 north to I-695 originally Maryland Route 3/Glen Burnie Bypass.
