As of July 31, 2001 it had 119,293 residents registered, making it the sixth largest city in Bavaria. The headquarters of the German automobile manufacturer Audi are located in Ingolstadt, as well as the headquarters of MediaMarkt and Saturn (both electronic stores). In 1748, it was in Ingolstadt that Adam Weishaupt was born. Literary references Ingolstadt is the setting for Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's novel Frankenstein and is a pivotal location in The Illuminatus! Trilogy by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson.
