Ingleby BarwickIngleby Barwick is a housing estate in Thornaby in north eastern England. Being just south of the River Tees it is located in the historic county of the North Riding of Yorkshire, latitude 5431'N, longitude 118'W (OS grid ref. NZ 450140). For administrative purposes it is part of the borough of Stockton-on-Tees. The estate is divided into six "villages". The villages are not in the true sense of the word, but rather six geographic areas. They are named: Lowfields, Beckfields, Sober Hall, Round Hill, Broom Hill and The Rings. Ingleby Barwick is one of the largest residential developments in Europe. It consists almost entirely of owner-occupied properties. Ingleby Barwick has faced a number of problems in recent years, including severe traffic congestion at peak times, and the lack of facilities for its large population. Disquiet amongst many residents has brought about the formation of the Ingleby Barwick Independent Society (IBIS). The society considers that the local authority views the housing estate as a cash cow (via collection of council tax) to fund projects in other areas. The level of support the society enjoys will be put to the test for the first time in the 2005 local government elections. External links
