Infiniti G35The Infiniti G35 is a sport luxury car introduced to North America in the 2003 model year. A similar vehicle is sold as the Nissan V35 Skyline in Japan, although there is no GT-R sports model for this generation of the Skyline. The GT-R may come to North America labeled as an Infiniti in 2007. It is available in coupe and sedan (280-298 horsepower kW). Each version has distinct styling details to set them apart, although overall the styling is the same. The G35 is assembled in Tochigi, Japan. The very first G35 was built on March 12, 2002 as a 2003 model. The Infiniti G35 name is used only in North America, although with the establishment of Nissan Korea Company, Infiniti sales will begin in mid-2005. There are plans for the Infiniti line to be introduced in Japan, China, Russia and, at a later stage, Western Europe. The G35 is based on the Nissan FM platform shared with the Nissan 350Z sports car and Infiniti FX sport utility vehicle. The G35 was Motor Trend's Car of the Year for 2003 and has been well-received by both the media and customers as a viable alternative to more expensive luxury cars. The car is also popular with tuners. The G35 was also nominated for the North American Car of the Year award that year and was on Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list for 2003 and 2004. Sporting a VQ35DE engine that is used in Nissan's Altima, Maxima, Quest, Frontier, 350Z, and Infiniti I35, the Infiniti G35 uses a front-midship engine, rear-wheel drive layout (all-wheel drive is available for the G35X sedan) to achieve a 52/48 percent weight distribution and agile handling. Both body styles are available with either a 5-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission, although the automatic is the only transmission available for the AWD sedan. The G35's main competitor is the BMW 3-Series. Others include the Audi A4, Saab 9-5, Volvo S60, Mercedes C-Class, and Cadillac CTS.
