Indian Prawn

Indian prawn (Penaeus indicus), also called white prawn or Indian white shrimp, is one of the major commercial prawn species of the world. It is found in the Indo-West Pacific from eastern and south-eastern Africa, through Malaysia and Indonesia to southern China and northern Australia. It is a marine decapod with estuarine juveniles. The Indian prawn prefers mud or sandy mud at depths of 2 to 90 m. It grows to 228 mm and has a life span of 18 months. It is commonly used in shrimp farming. The common name white shrimp may also refer to other species.
