Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning System

In a United Nations conference held in January 2005 in Kobe, Japan, it was decided that, as an initial step towards an International Early Warning Programme, the UN should establish an Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning System.http://www.japantoday.com/e/?content=news&cat=&id=325511 This is in response to the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. Many analysts claimed that the disaster would have been mitigated if there had been an effective warning system. People in some areas would have had more than adequate time to seek safety if they were aware of the impending catastrophe. It has been suggested that, in Muslim coastal areas, the loud speakers fitted to mosques could be used to broadcast warnings http://www.un.org/apps/news/story.asp?NewsID=13182&Cr=tsunami&Cr1=.
