Indian Foreign Minister

The External Affairs Minister commonly known as the Foreign Minister represents India and the government of India in the international community. The foreign minister is usually a veteran politician, a former diplomat or an IAS officer. The minister heads the "Ministry of External Affairs." A junior minister designated to the post of Minister of State for External Affairs assists him. The External Affairs ministry is run by extremely competent government officials from the Indian Foreign Service. The head of this department is the Foreign Secretary. This department is also responsible for the international diplomatic postings. The current Foreign minister is Natwar Singh, a seasoned diplomat of the Indian Foreign Service. Foreign ministers such as Inder Kumar Gujral and Atal Behari Vajpayee have gone on to become Prime Ministers of India.
