Illinois State Route 64Illinois State Route 64 is a long east-west road in north-central Illinois that connects Iowa State Route 64 at the state line with Iowa over the Mississippi River (by Savanna) with U.S. Highway 41 (Lake Shore Drive) in the north side of Chicago. Illinois 64 is about 150 miles (241 km) in length. Except for a half mile's length on the eastern end where Illinois 64 follows LaSalle Boulevard, the road is called "North Avenue" in Chicago, corresponding with an old boundary of the city of Chicago. (Western Avenue also serves this purpose west of Chicago.) It is a main east-west artery in Chicago itself, and one of only seven state routes to enter Chicago. Illinois 64 is a historic road, and has very few (if any) turns between the Iowa state line and Chicago. It is multiplexed with U.S. Highway 52 between the cities of Savanna and Brookville so that the Route 64 designation can carry over to Iowa. 64
