Illinois State Route 131

Illinois State Route 131 is a short, north-south state road that extends southwards from Wisconsin State Route 31 at the Illinois/Wisconsin state line by Racine, south to Illinois State Route 176 by Lake Bluff, a distance of 10 miles (16 km). Illinois 131 is called Green Bay Road for its entire length, but Green Bay Road becomes a residential street and extends an additional ten miles south to the Lake Forest area. It is one of very few state routes whose named road is longer than the marked state road. Illinois 131 would most likely have been called Illinois State Route 31, if Illinois 31 weren't already taken. The road parallels U.S. Highway 41 (Skokie Highway), which is only a few miles to the west, and Illinois State Route 137 (Amstutz Expressway), which is only a few miles to the east. It is the major north-south road between those two expressways.
