Igarat

Igarat is a municipality in the state of So Paulo in Brazil. Its coordinates are . The population in 2004 is 9,318, the area is 294.51 km² The elevation is 745 m. This place name comes from the Tupi language. Igarat stands adjacent to a beautiful dam, where aquatic sports and fishery is common practic among the locals and tourists. The Jaguari Dam is big, and stands between many cities (So Jos dos Campos, Santa Isabel, Jacare) in the So Paulo State. Igarat economy is mainly based on agriculture, because the fertile lands bordering the Jaguari Dam. Tourism are very important to the local economy, suporting handcraft work from the local people. Cattle are also very important, thanks to the endless grasslands of the So Paulo Highlands.
