Iberian Horse
The Iberian
horse
is native to the
Iberian peninsula
. One of the oldest of
horse breeds
, its
domestication
dates back as far as
3000 BC
when
Greek
invaders feared the Iberian
cavalry
. Today, two breeds have derived from a common
ancestor
: the
Lusitano
, from
Portugal
, is the Royal breed in Portugal; and the
Alter Real
, or "royal stud". This breed is typically 15-16 hands (150-160
cm
) at the withers. It is almost invariably bay in
colour
. In conformation, it resembles the
Andalusian horse
.
