HwarinmuHwarinmu is an internal martial art created by Master Jin Ho Guahk, who also uses the pseudoname Hwal Mu. The homepage is http://hwarinmu.com. Hwarinmu finds common principles from many arts that the Founder has studied, including hapkido, tai chi, aikido, daito-ryu aiki-jujitsu, shaolin kung fu, kendo (kumdo), and Chinese chin-na technique. It is characterised by front-facing upright stances, attacking or blocking while the opponent is preparing to attack, simultaneous use of hands, striking with anticipation of blocks and consideration of how the opponent can be manipulated in to a position vulnerable to joint locking or further strikes, techniques that strike while blocking, low kicking, footwork that slides past the aggressor while turning, minimalism, avoiding reliance on strength, exploiting physiological weaknesses such as the body's tendency to relax one arm as the other prepares to block, and concern for viability against multiple opponents and weapons. The following more abstract description is copied from the homepage: ''Hwarinmu is a hand sword martial art. This involves making ones arms into double swords by internal energy to cut and hit the opponent like Kendo(Kum Do) and Kenjitsu(Kum Sul). When an opponent attacks, a typical hwarinmu technique aims to mildly hit the opponent's pressure point which is safe and not fatal. This process guides the opponent to block the Hwarinmu hand sword so that he is in a position where a Hwarinmu martial artist can find harmony with the opponent by using his ki principles. As a result the opponent's joints and channels are controlled to stop his attack. Hwarinmu does not seek to destroy the opponent but aims at stopping the opponent's attack without serious damage.''
