Hugo Maradona

Hugo Maradona (born circa 1960) is an Argentine Association football coach who was also a star player for various clubs internationally. Maradona is one of two, lesser known brothers that Diego Maradona has. Nevertheless, Hugo Maradona was able to accomplish celebrity on his own, becoming a well liked player in Japan and in Italy as well as in his native Argentina. During 1985, Hugo Maradona became a superstar in Italy, helping take Ascoli to the Italian division one championship. He was adored by Ascoli fans, and he became a household name in Italy. Sold by Ascoli to the Argentino Juniors Argentine division 1 team, Maradona's star status fell considerably, as he was able to play in only 19 games for that team, although he won another championship, the 1987 division 1 closing title. Maradona only scored one goal while at Argentine Juniors, and he played in Japan's division 1 team, the Consa Sapporo team. After retiring from association football as a player, Maradona lived a relatively quiet life in Argentina, while his brother Diego maintained a life filled with public scandals and controversy. In 2004, Hugo Maradona moved part-time to Puerto Rico, where he became part of that country's association football federation's attempt to invigorate the sport among Puerto Ricans by becoming the head coach of the Puerto Rico Islanders, a Major League Soccer farm team. He was well received by Puerto Ricans, and is expected to work there for a considerable amount of time as technical director of the Islanders. Maradona formed part of Argentina's under 16 national soccer team.
