Huff (Board Games)

In a number of board games, capturing an opponent's piece is compulsory when it is possible. In some games, including Alquerque and 8x8 Draughts, a player who fails to capture forfeits the piece which should have performed the capture. This forfeiture is known as a huff. The huff rule is used in traditional and informal draughts games. In tournament play, failing to capture is simply an illegal move.
