Huambo

Huambo is the capital city of Huambo Province in Angola. While Angola was a colony of Portugal, it was called Nova Lisboa (New Lisbon). Modern Huambo is a transportation center on the Benguela Railway, and food processing and the repair of railroad equipment are its most important industries. Population estimates vary from 400k people (1995 estimate Encarta) to 1,859,500 people. (2004 estimate world-gazetteer.com).
